The Gloucester Cathedral residency is operated by a consortium comprising the University of Gloucestershire, Gloucester Cathedral, Gloucester City Council, and Gloucestershire County Council. The School of Art, Media & Design at the University operates as the lead partner and is committed to the creation of regional partnerships and art-in-the community projects, promoting high quality artistic activities and wider access to the arts.
Gloucester Cathedral retains much of its original Norman architecture, as well as some important 14th Century work. Primarily a place of worship, the Cathedral has embraced the residency as part of an exploration of the spiritual and social role of art.
