Colour is controversial. Shunned from our lives through the cold white minimalist period for too long, colour is now making a welcomed resurrection. A new exhibition, which is exploding with colour, is opening at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Thursday 26 June. The work of three exciting artists, Katie Guthrie, Martin McKenna and Sarah Tingle, will be on display in the Gallery of ARI until 8th August 2008. Graduates of Gray’s School of Art, these three artists have differing styles, but each one uses colour – or its absence – to engage the viewer. Their bold, vibrant abstracts and rich detailed studies offer a visual spectacle at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Paul Peter Piech was born in 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, of Ukrainian parents, and settled in the UK following the second World War. He studied printmaking at Chelsea and worked in advertising for 20 years before returning to Chelsea to teach graphic design. In 1959 Paul Piech set up The Taurus Press at his home in Bushey Heath, Hertfordshire, where he worked on books and prints which explored new ways of combining text and imagery, often to reflect his deeply held views on pacifism and equality. His work was produced mainly through the medium of linocut and woodcut. In 1986 Piech moved to Wales, where he involved himself passionately in the cultural life of the country, and continued producing work right up until his death in 1996.Regional Print Centre touring exhibition from the collection of Yale College, Wrexham

Allenheads Contemporary Arts presents ‘draw a line, follow it’, an exhibition exploring the significance of process to this group of North East based artists. Each of the artists has established a system for the making of work which places specific constraints and limitations on their practice. Ranging from the rigid employment of painstakingly repetitive actions to the relinquishing of decisions to chance, those systems provide a focus for production and provoke questions about personal control over creative process.

The Little Artists are John Cake and Darren Neave. Cake and Neave's practice considers cultural identity, branding and what it means to be a contemporary artist through adopting the concept of the figure of the artist as a logo, a brand name, a lifestyle choice. They created and became 'The Little Artists' brand. Their work has been exhibited across the UK, Europe and in New York. This is the first time a slice of their practice has been shown together in the UK.

Fairfields is very pleased to organise the first event of its kind in the UK - ‘The First UK International Manga Art Show.’ There have, of course, been a small number of very good exhibitions of Manga before in the UK, but this is the first exhibition which treats it purely as an art form and which has such an international selection of work by artists from all over the world.Although essentially a Japanese art form, this exhibition has work by artists from Japan, China, US, Italy, France, Canada, the UK...... Many of these artists whose work we are showing are only in their early twenties, and their work is a perfect sythesis of old and new. Indeed, many of these artists state their media as ‘Pencil and Photoshop CS.’

In response to ICIA’s theme 'so far...' this atmospheric series of photographs explores how geography, personal memory and social history intersect. In the tradition of the seascape, the images depict the North Sea, where most of the North’s un-mined coal still resides. The photographs have been created using image-making equipment available to all of us in everyday life; the low-resolution mobile phone camera. Enlarged beyond clear definition, the images become hazy, impressionistic, glowing with colour. Printed on a surface that appears to be watercolour paper, they seem to suggest the more abstract works of Turner. Tim Brennan is viewed as one of the most important practitioners to contribute to the social and political role of contemporary art and has been cited as developing and applying the concerns of minimalism, performance, land art and conceptualism within the social fabric. He is Programme Leader, MA Curating at the University of Sunderland.
